Frequently asked Question

Founded in 2009 to provide a sustainable and efficient alternative to deep-earth mining, the company now recovers 60,000 troy ounces of PGM annually from spent materials

Catalytic converters are valuable because they contain three different Platinum Group Metals (PGM) – platinum, palladium and rhodium. A standard converter with ceramic core typically has between 3 to 7 grams of platinum coating but the amount differs based on make and model, even from region to region. So how much your scrap catalytic converters are worth depends on a few factors: the market prices of PGM reclaimed from your catalytic converters at the time of settlement, the size of your converter lot and the type of converters.

We have the BR Metals pricing app with LIVE prices for 20,000 makes and models that is available for download and use. Best of all, it’s FREE for all Model B customers.

As a general rule of thumb, high quality ceramic pieces have tiny compartment with even and radiant grey coating. On the other hand, ceramic pieces with low PGM content tend to be black and oily or pale and whitish with big holes.

BR Metals has a global service network in 22 countries in Asia, Middle East, Europe and Australasia. No matter where you are located, we are just an email or instant message away. Contact us to discuss the logistics of processing your PGM scrap today.

If you want to sell your scrap converter directly (Model A), we have a minimum lot size depending on where you are located. We will visit you at an agreed upon location to access and pay for your lot on the same day. For recycling customers (Models B), we have the fastest payment in the industry. No matter how big your volume, you can expect to get paid 80% to 90% of the total value of your lot within 3 days of the preliminary assay via bank wire.

The value is typically determined by analysing the precious metals (platinum, palladium, and rhodium) contained within the converter. This process involves de-canning, sampling, and assaying the ceramic material inside.

Recycling helps recover valuable metals, reducing the need for mining and lowering environmental impact. It also prevents hazardous materials from ending up in landfills.

Companies often have extensive databases and grading systems to categorize converters based on their size, type, and metal content. This helps in providing accurate pricing and efficient processing.

Our Model B (Purchase by Assay) customers get FREE access and use of our pricing app with LIVE prices for 20,000 makes and models so that they don’t overpay for converters.

Look for transparency in their processes, accurate and timely analysis, and a good track record in the industry. It’s also important that they have the necessary certifications and expertise

The Model B is an analysis-based settlement option for recycling used catalytic converters. It offers higher returns compared to direct purchase by providing a settlement based on the precise value of the precious metals like Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium recovered.

The process involves several steps: de-canning, milling, and homogenizing the catalytic converters, followed by sampling and analysis using advanced techniques like XRF and ICP-OES. An advance payment is made based on initial XRF results, with final settlement after ICP analysis.

Model B can handle a wide range of catalytic converters, including those from cars, trucks, and industrial machinery, regardless of their size or metal content.

The initial sampling and XRF analysis can be completed within 3 working days, while the final ICP analysis and settlement typically take up to 7 working days.

Model B offers higher returns due to the precise valuation of precious metals. It also includes services like hedging to protect against price fluctuations and flexible financing options to improve cash flow.

BR Metals uses state-of-the-art equipment and follows stringent international standards for sampling and analysis. The process includes multiple checks and balances to ensure accuracy and transparency.
